The Obsidian Ortho is part of the Bonnell Collection; a group of traditionally made mattresses for traditional support and comfort. It features a 12.5g bonnell spring unit for even, firm support with layers of multiple fillings for extra comfort and firmness. The mattress has been hand-tufted for an even sleeping surface that holds all the fillings together to keep the mattress shape for longer, as well as a side-stitched border and edge support to maintain mattress shape. It's double sided with handles on the border for easy turning and air vents to keep the mattress feeling fresh and clean. It's ideal for those looking for more orthopaedic support within their mattress, with a firm feel.

Some of the qualities of this mattress include:
• Open Coil: An open coil mattress has a spring support system of hundreds of interconnected springs joined together to make a spring bed. The interconnected springs perform as a single system, rather than each spring operating independently like with pocket springs. They have a more traditional feel than a pocket sprung mattress and can have a firmer feel for those who prefer it. Whilst not as supportive as pocket springs, open coil mattresses provide the same comfort level and are more common within standard mattresses.
• Foam Fillings: Foam Fillings are common in many mattresses. Foam provides the firmness a mattress requires, providing the traditional feel. It enhances the comfort of the mattress and provides support. Foam encases spring fillings to prevent any springs from providing discomfort throughout the night. Foam tends to be quite breathable as well, keeping your bed feeling fresher for longer.
• Damask Fabric: This is a woven fabric that will be on the majority of mattresses. It has become generally termed ‘Belgian damask’, even though many of the damask fabrics described are made outside of Belgium. Damask is soft to the touch, breathable and is flexible for the sleeper, meaning the upholstery fibres underneath can do their job and you get the highest level of comfort.
• Hand-Tufted: A hand-tufted mattress can provide a firmer feel than a traditional quilted mattress. Tufts are often used to help keep mattress fillings together, helping to keep your mattress shape for longer and are particularly useful in pocket sprung mattresses. Better quality tufts actually have their hard plastic ends very well protected by felt or wool pompoms, meaning that the most people won’t be able to feel their presence.
• Edge Support: Edge support is the amount of resistance a mattress provides around the edges. More edge support means less sagging and falling towards the edge. Edge support provides stable support to sit on the side of the bed, which is important for those with hip or joint pain or have a hard time getting up from a low position. Edge support is most common in mattresses that have coils with side support systems or foam mattresses that have extra foam structure on the sides.
• Side-Stitching:To help pro-long the life of the mattress, it is crafted as a turnable mattress and comes with side stitched borders that provide edge to edge support, preventing the sides of your mattress from sagging and keeping you feeling supported and comfortable in your bed.

This platform divan base provides a sturdy, reliable base for the mattress, constructed from solid and strong materials and timber wood for a robust and strong structure that adds durability. It creates a comfortable sleeping surface that prevents motion disturbance throughout the night. You can choose between wooden legs or chrome gliders for ease of movement when required, whilst protecting your wooden flooring from scratches or damage. The base has been upholstered in high quality fabric that can be ordered in a colour of your choice by using the options above, meaning you can choose the bed that suits your space the most. The matching headboard can be added using the options above, though alternatively you can find the full range of headboard styles by clicking here. This base comes with NO DRAWERS but a two drawer, four drawer or ottoman base is available elsewhere on our website. This divan base is delivered in two halves.
