Created with Respa's own 12.5 gauge RespaTech Spring System the Orchid has firm support built in. Insulating fibre pads and polyester fillings add the comfort factor to this mattress. With a tufted finish the Orchid comes complete in a Belgian damask fabric with purotex that will add a little luxury. As a double sided mattress it has handles to help flipping the mattress easier.

Some of the qualities of the mattress include:

• Bonnell Springs: An open coil mattress has a spring support system of hundreds of interconnected springs joined together to make a spring bed. The interconnected springs perform as a single system, rather than each spring operating independently like with pocket springs. They have a more traditional feel than a pocket sprung mattress and can have a firmer feel for those who prefer it. Whilst not as supportive as pocket springs, open coil mattresses provide the same comfort level and are more common within standard mattresses.
• Foam Fillings: Foam Fillings are common in many mattresses. Foam provides the firmness a mattress requires, providing the traditional feel. It enhances the comfort of the mattress and provides support. Foam encases spring fillings to prevent any springs from providing discomfort throughout the night. Foam tends to be quite breathable as well, keeping your bed feeling fresher for longer.
• Hand-Tufted: A hand-tufted mattress can provide a firmer feel than a traditional quilted mattress. Tufts are often used to help keep mattress fillings together, helping to keep your mattress shape for longer and are particularly useful in pocket sprung mattresses. Better quality tufts actually have their hard plastic ends very well protected by felt or wool pompoms, meaning that the most people won’t be able to feel their presence.
• Damask Fabric: This is a woven fabric that will be on the majority of mattresses. It has become generally termed ‘Belgian damask’, even though many of the damask fabrics described are made outside of Belgium. Damask is soft to the touch, breathable and is flexible for the sleeper, meaning the upholstery fibres underneath can do their job and you get the highest level of comfort.
• Edge to Edge Support: Edge support is the amount of resistance a mattress provides around the edges. More edge support means less sagging and falling towards the edge. Edge support provides stable support to sit on the side of the bed, which is important for those with hip or joint pain or have a hard time getting up from a low position. Edge support is most common in mattresses that have coils with side support systems or foam mattresses that have extra foam structure on the sides.

This bed comes as a standard divan bed with TWO DRAWERS. The base has been constructed from solid and strong materials and timber for a robust and sturdy structure that adds reliability and durability. You can choose between standard castors or chrome gliders for ease of movement when required, whilst protecting your wooden flooring from scratches or damage. The base has been upholstered in high quality fabric that can be ordered in a colour of your choice by using the options above, meaning you can choose the bed that suits your space the most. A headboard can also be added upon purchase by using the options above, with a choice between strutted or floor standing. However, you can also find a range of other headboard options in our headboard section. This base comes with TWO DRAWERS, positioned one on one side at the bottom of the base and ideal for storing clothing, spare linen, blankets and other light items.
